Why the next ten years of beer collecting will smash the last ten years of beer collecting

As a relative new collector to this great hobby of brewery collectibles, I can see a few things to come that in the past never seemed possible.

Craft breweries in Ontario and the rest of Canada in the past 4 years have seen an explosion in popularity. More and more people are taking the plunge and starting their own brewery. Niagara College has started a Teaching Brewery course that graduates new brewmasters each year.

Men and women are taking the chance and opening breweries at a record rate.

This is great news for brewery collectors like us. I have seen so many different brewery collectibles out already that the direction you can chose to take is endless. Labels, coasters, glassware, signs, trays, shirts, hats, bottle openers, the list goes on and on.

It’s a big difference then in the last ten years. Big breweries have tied up the market with only limited merchandise for collectors to pick from. It forced us to pick from the older items that don’t interest the younger generation that this hobby needs to attract.

We are attracting younger brewery collectors to this hobby. I can see it at the shows I have gone to, as well as the breweries. They are out there and are showing a great interest in collecting items from their favourite breweries. It’s a new wave of people coming along and it’s the same people we need to attract to our clubs.

The next ten years are going to be a lot different then the last ten years. We need to be vigilant and embrace everyone we can to help this hobby survive.

Any thoughts??

Cheers!
